The best aspect ratio for every platform in 2026

One clip rarely fits everywhere. This is the short version of which shape to export for which placement, and why.

Vertical: 9:16

TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook Reels and Stories are all full-screen vertical. Export 1080×1920 where you can.

Feed posts: 4:5 and 1:1

4:5 portrait takes up more vertical space in the Instagram and Facebook feeds than a square, so it stops the scroll better. 1:1 square is the safe multi-platform choice and still works well on LinkedIn.

Landscape: 16:9

YouTube's main player, websites, presentations and TV are all 16:9. If you shot vertical and need 16:9, crop tight on the subject rather than adding side bars where you can.

Classic and custom

4:3 still shows up in older displays and some ad placements. For anything unusual — a banner strip, a specific ad spec — a free crop where you set width and height by hand is faster than hunting for a preset.

  • 9:16 — TikTok, Reels, Shorts, Stories
  • 4:5 — Instagram and Facebook portrait feed
  • 1:1 — square feed posts, LinkedIn
  • 16:9 — YouTube, web, presentations
  • 4:3 — classic video, some ads
